Theodore Roosevelt takes down Wilson to Win DCIAA Championship

In their fourth consecutive DCIAA Championship matchup with Wilson, the Theodore Roosevelt Rough Riders finally got to celebrate. Roosevelt rallied from six points down in the final four minutes to edge the 3-time defending champions 66-63 and claim its first league title since 2014 on Sunday at the DC Entertainment & Sports Arena. James Pitts had 19 points to lead the Rough Riders, while Phillip Flegler and Marcel Garbriel added 10 a piece. Miasiah Brown led Wilson with 10 points, while Phillip Carter and Jay Young each had 11 and Nasir Best 10.

2nd Annual Prince George’s County Challenge

The Prince George’s County Basketball Coaches Association brought its annual PG Challenge to Fairmont Heights High School on February 14-15, allowing the county’s 4A squads to judge themselves against their 1A/2A/3A counterparts. The 4A League proved triumphant this year - winning the series 6 games to 3. Huddle GOTW (Girls): Charles Herbert Flowers H.S vs. Eleanor Roosevelt H.S

The Huddle GOTW featured the ladies Flowers Jaguars vs. ladies of Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders.  Flowers took a commanding lead 16-4 in the 1st qtr. Then stepped on the gas and opened the lead to 28-4 in the 2nd qtr. Roosevelt did not roll over they fought back and went on a 15-2 run to go in halftime down 30-19. Huddle GOTW: Bowie H.S vs. Laurel H.S

The Huddle GOTW featured the Bowie Bulldogs vs. the Laurel Spartans, a battle between 4A conference rivals. The Spartans led by Brendon Blackson jumped out to a commanding 1st quarter lead, 25-10. With a bit of sloppy play from both sides, Laurel kept the momentum in the 2nd and maintained their lead at the half, 33-22. Huddle GOTW: Potomac H.S vs. Oxon Hill H.S

"A Clash of the Titans" or the "Battle of Oxon Hill", either way you put it, two powerhouse programs came ready to leave that night with a major victory. Potomac vs. Oxon Hill was as drama filled as expected. Oxon Hill came out surprisingly as the aggressor and put the Wolverines back on their heels early. Prince George’s County Middle School Championships

The Prince George’s County Middle School championship games showcased some of the best young talent our county had to offer. In the girls championship match-up, we had James Madison against last years county champion Walker Mill. Huddle GOTW: Fairmont Heights H.S vs Oxon Hill H.S

The Huddle Game of the week Oxon Hill VS Frederick Douglass. This game was highly anticipated around Prince George’s County. The gym was packed and the Oxon Hill fans were amazing! Oxon Hill jumped out early taking immediate control of the game. Douglass seemed shell-shocked and gave the Clippers whatever they wanted shown by the 20-11 first quarter score. Kevin Durant MLK Classic

Kevin Durant MLK Classic took place today at the St. James facility and these young men that played did not disappoint. Woodrow Wilson High School had a busy Saturday with 2 games and won both representing the DMV brand well. A slugfest between St. Charles and Riverdale Baptist took place, St. Charles was victorious 55-53 with their guard play, defense, and rebounding. Norfolk Collegiate made the trip up to play Sidwell Friends. Norfolk had some high flying plays that showed their brand of basketball and it led to a 58-47 victory.

Huddle GOTW: Northwestern H.S vs. Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. H.S

Huddle Game of the Week featured a battle of fast break pace with half court efficiency between Northwestern and Wise High School. Defense was the name of the game in this match-up with Northwestern dominating the defensive boards which ended many potential second chance points and allowed them to slow the pace for their half court sets. Wise defense allowed them to create fast break points with the intense passing lane presence of their guards.
